Finally caught a sunrise, as
the clouds in the distance mornings prior were no where to be
found this day. I got a nice swim in between 6:30 and 7:00 am.
Interesting, I was privy to several fish breaching the water...
Looked like about 16-20" in length. Kind of made me wonder
what might be chasing them! I think they were skip jacks. Janie
arrived shortly thereafter and we trekked over in our swim gear
to grab a bit of breakfast. Nice beachside view with the sun
crinkling around the edges of the cabana.
After breakfast I snuggled
in to the cabana for some writing time. Monica bombed over shortly
thereafter and said Allister and Bernadette had wandered by the
breakfast area. Janie had spotted a guy with a St FX ball hat
turned backward on his head - and it was Allister. They had a
coffee, then visited our rooms to check things out. Monica and
Eileen had Spa appointments scheduled so they headed that way
and we walked back to the Grand Palladium with the MacDougalls
to check out their resort. It was just two complexes over and
looked like a great spot... Especially for the kids with lots
of pool and water activities for the young ones. Alison and Mike
were on the move so we didn't see them. Nice to catch up with
Allister and Bernadette though... I'm guessing the odds of seeing
them here in that fashion were next to zero!
Then back to our beach cabana
digs for a lay back... I actually slept outright for about 45
minutes... Didn't hear or see a thing. Steve Wright would call
a kink like that "handsome"! To the trough again shortly
afterward... As all were hungry! My Lord the food... We ate out
of the sun in the Platinum Lounge, where our waiter came on heavy
with the beers. Then all hands dispersed for a quiet afternoon,
with some at the lounge... Others at the beach. Very relaxing.
Janie made another a la carte
reservation for supper at one of the restaurants, Restaurante
Licey. Thus, another dress up affair! We had an excellent supper...
"Fancy Shmancy" as Janie calls it. Four courses of
exquisitely prepared and served vegetables and seafood. Most
had lobster as the entree and it was so good. Of course lots
of wine and a special dessert to top it off. It was more quiet
than we had expected, and the waiters were falling over us in
regards to service. Great evening of gourmet food mixed with
some healthy "can't believe we're doing this" as an
aside.
Entertaining meal. Let me tell
you there was no shortage of food on this trip!!! We are, as
a unit, awkward at this type of supper... I'm sure putting a
thumping on normal rules of etiquette. However, no better place
than the anonymity of Punta Cana to give it a hook!! After a
short jaunt home it was off to bed, knowing another big excursion
was in the offing for Friday.
