The Saga Begins

This year our family "saved-up" for a trip to New York City for March Break. We decided (as we have yet to receive our passports) that driving would be the mode of transport. On Friday, March 9th/07 we loaded the car a' la Chevy Chase and headed out for our adventure. As a chronicle of the trek, we put together this web site to share the experience with our families and create a working reminder for future trips with friends and family.

The chosen route, at approximately 15 hours driving, was to travel through Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and New England to Fairfield, Conneticut. It was there we would set up with our gracious hosts... Steve, Jen, Annie and Meg. They were amazing... from helping to trek us into the city on our first visits, to welcoming us to fabulous late evening dinners, to sharing their living space and even sharing an ale with us. Thanks so much guys.

Each day, we headed into the city after rush traffic (1 hr commute) and basically explored New York at our leisure. We found it was an excellent time of year to visit as the weather was superb (this may have been lucky), line ups were manageable and parking was readily available. With our two children, we traipsed the city, mostly on foot. They were game and we had little difficulty getting around, parking fairly close to where the days planned events were located.

My wife and I had never been to NYC, but like most of the modern world were exposed to the many locations, icons and aura of the city through popular media. Unfortunately, much of this was negative in nature and we closed in on NYC with some trepidation. Even though our route was limited to the "most traveled" areas, the people we met and the overall experience was overwhelmingly a positive one. Perhaps some of the sentiment shared within will bring you to New York too.
