Tips like...
Don't eat yellow snow!
Don't play leap frog with
unicorns!
But seriously... we always
come back with a list of things that worked out great or others
we'd do differently. A lot of these have been gathered over the
last four/five years from our travels but still worth mention
when on the road.
- Importantly, Sullivan's Auto
went over the Corolla to make sure fluids, breaks and engine
were in good working order.
- Check with your card company
before leaving so they know the card may be used abroad and drop
a limit on expenditures in case it gets stolen.
- Check out the local. Had some
great sample packs of seasonal ales that were lots of fun. Don't
be shy about experimenting.
- We stayed at the Hampton Inn
while heading for our destination. We like it because there are
no surprises. Always included free wifi, free parking, full breakfast,
pool and travel centre while remaining economical.
- The Canadian dollar is still
good... close to parity. Gas, food, clothing and accommodation
are a solid deal.
- If you have questions... ask
them. We got great information on travel routes, attractions
and or even just where to pick up some groceries / bottle of
wine.
- We used a combination of GPS,
Google maps and paper maps. We always know (roughly) where we
were, reducing a lot of road stress. Although we know this route
very well, we love the "destination time" which helps
in all kinds of planning
- The i-Pod/i-Pad and accompanying
chargers left a means for music, e-books, and maps as well as
our main communication tool home via e-mail (and even a little
Sodoku/note taking time when Dad wasn't driving).
