Day Three

Our Monday/Tuesday accommodations were selected solely on their proximity to our next attraction, 10 minutes south from Canada's Wonderland. An added bonus was the great morning breakfasts we had, and the wonderful lady that served us both mornings, Blanca. Peter, having paid for his own Wonderland ticket, was excited and we went for it... a day of rides, lines and screams.

Canada's Wonderland - We arrived shortly after 10:00 am with already extended line-ups at the park gates. After a quick security scan we entered and headed for a full day of rides, water activities and "fast food". Monica was near the height level for most rides, being exempted however from some of the higher thrill rides (that was okay with Dad).

These notes should come with the preface that the author is not a fan of amusement park rides. In fact, just the opposite could be said, as I sorted the reasons why I would not want to "die" in this manner. Some of the rides were deceiving, and we found that although they looked bearable from a "standing" position once on them they took on a different temperament.

Our kids, as well as Jane and I, got in from 15 to 20 rides during the day. It included all manner of roller coasters, swing rides, water slides and spinning objects. We avoided, as a group, the nastiest attractions. A highlight was, believe it or not, the "wave pool" in the Splashworks section of the park. We all spent close to an hour in the water enjoying the refreshing temperature and the waves which seemed to show up every 15 minutes or so.

My favorite was the Lazy River which was just my speed!!! Mom and Monica were more adventurous and found themselves up-side-down in a huge space ship circling 360 degrees at 100 ft off the ground. Peter, after a rough bumper car trip, settled in nicely for a ride called the Nightmare which Monica and I sat out.

We fell off the healthy snack wagon here, but really enjoyed the salty, fresh cut, deep-fried fries and gravy. We spent the bulk of the day rambling from ride to ride, taking very few photos (not risking misplacing our camera or having it dunked in the water park). Seemed like our little slice of northern Disney in many ways... commercialism at it's best. That being said, mixed among the parents struggling with the excitement of their youngsters, were a lot of people having great fun. A special treat for Peter and Monica in many ways.
