Day Four/Five
We had estimated that we may
require a couple of days to get back, taking into consideration
the thought that we may be running out of steam come Monday night.
We decided to split the drive back into two days with the hope
of being more rested when we eventually arrived. It was a "Good
Call".
- Day 4
- Monday, in the am, we traveled
with Steve to several shopping locations in Fairfield. We actually
picked up some great sports clothing (Jerseys, hats, hoodies,
etc) at Bob's. When we got back to Steve's, we said our thank
yous and good byes and hit the highway. We had a brief layover
in Hartford at lunch, where Eric purchased some tech stuff and
we snacked. Then we steamed right through to Portland Me., curiously
passing a Halifax Metro Transit bus in Massachusetts and taking
a brief stop at the New Hampshire Liquor outlet. Ate at Quiznos
in Portland, it was excellent. Peter had soup? Must have been
missing his Mom by then... by then it was past supper, so we
set our sights on Bangor and staying the night. We actually had
a great evening, as we toured Bangor (I think we got lost every
time we drove through there), booked a room at the Ramada where
there was a pool, sampled some single malt and surfed between
the Yankees game and the Cowboys come from behind win. Snored
very loudly according to brother.
- Day 5
- Up and at it early and made
a dash for the border after a mug up at this cool MacDonald's
(log woodwork inside). We were about two hours into Calais, gassed
up and sailed through the crossing. Always a bit intimidating
there for me, I feel guilty even though I've done nothing wrong.
Anyway, no issues and a great chat with the border guard. Then
very much a direct drive through to Sackville and Antigonish.
All in all, a comfortable trip back with little issue. Realized
it's almost exactly a full tank of fuel from Antigonish to Calais.
So much for the cheap fuel!!
Evening Planning: We arrived back in Antigonish at about
5:15pm. Great trip with everything running as smoothly as possible. |
