Set aside as a travel day, Wednesday's intent was to depart from Georgia and navigate north through the Carolina's into Virginia. We had considered stopping in Charleston but with time for us to get north narrowing, and impending snow in New York and New England, we decided to boogie right into Petersburg, VA.

However, Janie and I did take advantage of a groggy crew to get out for an early morning walk in Savannah. The trolley tour was fun, but we wanted to get out and walk some of the squares and take a few photos of the gardens and architecture. Distinct were the wrought iron work, the vegetation and the garden like squares located evenly on the city grid. There are many statues, passive parks and historical markers that are great to wander. Savannah is very walkable and we were out / back by 8:00 AM, and freshly gassed and tackling the road at about 9:00 am. Great stay and we really enjoyed Savannah.

Pretty much a straight run from Savannah to Petersburg. Great highways, with traffic somewhat more polite and moving at speed. We stopped once to switch drivers in South Carolina, and for gas and food in North Carolina. We pulled into Petersburg by four and quickly checked in. GPS dropped us on the mark! Car worked so well throughout too, and we are nothing but awed at the way this vehicle has serviced our needs.

Wednesday evening we spent a couple of hours at the local shopping centre where Janie and Monica went on tour. Nicely, the mall is also outfitted with a huge movie theatre and Pete had picked The Hobbit: The Desolation of Smaug (just released) as the after supper entertainment piece. Coke and popcorn, 2 1/2 hours of Bilbo and Gandalf and the hi jinx that goes with their antics. Orcs, Elves, Dwarves and talking dragons!!! All on a very big screen. Fun night out! Then a short drive back for an evening snack in front of the tube! Good night!
