Out of bed and on the road
shortly after 7:00 AM, taking on the I-95 through to New Haven,
then north to Hartford where we stopped at a Denny's for an obscene
breakfast. Great waitress and too much food... Quickly in and
out and we booked our last room night for the trip in Bangor.
Nice stop.
I drove from Steve's to the
southern coast of Maine in Kennebunkport through CT, MA, and
New Hampshire. Janie from there to Bangor, where she spent the
balance of the day checking out bargains while I hunkered down
with the kids at the Hampton Inn, where we swam, ate cookies,
drank hot chocolate and watched the Wildcard Weekend games. Two
very entertaining games. Monica got sneakers and duds, Peter
got movies and Mike and Ikes, Dad got a new duffel bag and Mom
picked up a jacket. Good rest and chance to organize for the
border and the last leg of the journey.
Sunday morning, up before 6:00
AM and out the door in the hope of a quiet border crossing and
arrival in Antigonish before the sun sets. Great run to Houlton,
Maine making the trip in about an hour and a half. We gassed
up there, as the cheaper gas puts us very close to home. Then
grabbed a couple of duty free bottles and hit the crossing. Janie
had all organized with details on cost in a spreadsheet on her
phone. We went through without incident... 9:30 Atlantic time.
Losing the hour always hurts a bit on the drive back, but we
breathe easier in Canada and were looking forward to pulling
into the driveway. I read somewhere that missing home is the
sign of a good trip! We shared the driving duties home through
NB and NS and pulled into Antigonish at 2:45 PM, some 6,500 kms
from start to finish.
