I set out early and scoped
out Pembroke, taking a walk alone on the boardwalk along river
and studying some of the interpretive signage on the trail. The
weather was just peachy... not too warm and sunny. I returned
to a big brunch and morning of lounging about and preparing for
our "kids day" excursion.
Mac's Ce-Dar-Est Campground - At noon we struck out for Mac's
Ce-Dar-Est Campground at Mink Lake near Eganville, Ontario. Mike's
Mom, Mary, has a seasonal site there and her children and grandchildren
visit regularly over the summer. As luck would have it, we arrived
just before the annual "Kids Day" with activities including
water balloons, swimming, BBQ and Dunk Tank.
Upon our arrival we headed
for the event area and our kids joined in like they had been
visiting the campground there entire lives. Peter and Monica
made friends with Braydon and Delaney and the foursome hit the
games and nearby lake for the afternoon. Mike, the ever energetic,
made his way to the dunk tank only to be soaked by Alison. The
neighborhood was busy, setting up lights and tables for an evening
dance and a huge side of BBQ'd beef. After having ales with Harvey
and Bill, Mike and I rallied the troops.
After a great afternoon and
goodbyes we headed back to Pembroke. Many thanks to all those
at the campground who made us feel so welcome and welcomed the
kids to their events. It was greatly appreciated.
Jane and Alison raced into
the heart of Pembroke before 6 to catch another Giant Tiger in
hopes of getting more "finds" from this discount dealer.
This time, Monica went on a GT Boutique spending spree. The deals
were adding up! The kids secured new "heelies" and
a computer Gettysburg game which Peter had been looking for.
After a huge Corn-on-the-Cob
/ Kabob supper, some Sleeman's and "The Week the Women Left",
we made some accommodations plans for staying in Montreal the
following evening in the downtown area.
Once again, many thanks to
Mike and Alison for extending their hospitality. Peter and Monica
got to sleep in the Popke-to-be room. Exciting times ahead for
you folks... Cheers guys.
Day Seven was to be another
early rise as we would try and make downtown Montreal, a little
over three hours drive, in the morning.
