The more prepared a group is, the more likely you are to have a successful travel day. It by no means eliminates issues, but does greatly increase the capacity to respond and, with some luck, produce a favourable result. So, early rise on Saturday… coffees and a final walk through; Passports✅, Credit Cards✅, Liquids/Gels✅, iPhones/Chargers✅. With boarding passes on the phones, we walked through a quick security check and came to rest comfortably at our gate for the wait to board. All as expected (although Air Canada oversold and was looking for volunteers to reschedule) and lift off about 20 minutes late. And guess what… got to fly over clear skies in Eastern NS and I had great views (minus a huge plane wing) of Smelt Lake and Canso. Happy place 🤗!
It’s a “long ass” flight… roughly 5 1/2 hrs. Passed the time through a series of grub ups, movies (Casablanca 🎥 was on the in-flight play list), and watching the flight map. My first time tackling this trip during the day… usually a red eye that requires recuperation afterwards. We’ll see how it works out! We touched down at Heathrow at about 8:25 PM GMT. The plan, in its loosest form, was to navigate getting from Terminal 2 to Terminal 5 for accommodations near that terminal in order to make an 8:00 AM Sunday morning flight to Budapest. We were the best part of an hour clearing customs, catching free tube ride to T5, and landing the H5D Hoppa Bus outside the terminal. More of an experiment than anything else… just to see how the connection works to determine how we get to Heathrow Sunday morning.
Evening accommodations were at the nearby Hilton London Heathrow Airport Terminal 5 (LHR). We arrived, unfortunately at the back of a group getting off the Hoppa Bus, but eventually got checked in. Somewhat discouraged, we were pleased to find out we were hotel “Guests of the Day”, with a big room upgrade and funky spread of sweets / drinks to enjoy at our leisure. Not sure why, how, who was responsible for that little perk, but thank you – thank you 🤓! Great pick me up… and we settled for the evening closing out a busy day with a lot of travel! Although thoughts were of X-Men hoops 🏀, it was early to bed with a quick turnaround and not much downtime!

Glad you made it safely across the pond !
