Maine ’16 Reflections

View at Acadia National Park

We feel so priveleged to be able to continue travelling as a family unit! I’ve been converted somewhere along life’s trail from a person who went south each summer (into Guysborough County 😜) to a planner of self-travel that has taken our tiny family across our continent and abroad. No trip more significant, none more important. I look forward to learning together, experiencing sites, foods and attractions (both grand and unassuming) of our choosing. The research, the adventure, and a successful journey all bring great reward!

I remember reading a journal article that I thought quite incredible. It described the benefits realized by young people (and adults) that are exposed to organized travel. Increased self esteem, preparation for globalization, improved language acquisition, developed cultural awareness… The list of positive influences is lengthy. I’ve not only seen this in my children, but in myself! We’ve grown together and even with the more limited extent of our own journeys, the world has become much smaller… More familiar. I no longer consider travel a cost or expense, but rather an investment, akin to a mortgage or God forbid a student loan!
