Okay! We’re getting the hang of this place now. So you do a little bit of stuff in the morning, have a siesta… then a little bit of stuff in the evening, another siesta. Things are relaxed here… Even the most commonly observed beach exercise in Puerto Morelos, yoga, has a leisurely pace. Tuesday we had nothing officially planned (Well… not “absolutely” nothing). That usually means Janie will sneak off for some shopping while I snuggle under a Cabana or do some reading/writing (she moves better without a burdensome grump peeking from the curb). Regardless, we will go where the spirit takes us.
In an entirely selfish fashion, I did have a couple of earth shattering tasks! Firstly, I wanted to get my own picture of a Great Tailed Grackle so you can see this squawky, beady-eyed ball of sass in action. Birds with mojo! My first attempt to nab a photo failed miserably. Who’d have thought that they wouldn’t like bread. They are plentiful, but don’t necessarily feel the need to pose. My best looks had been in the corner section of the pool where several had come to splash and drink. It was back to the drawing board until mid afternoon when this male wandered unabashedly up the side of the pool! Janie got him…
Secondly, we needed to find an ATM and begin to experiment with Mexican pesos. So far the bulk of our funds have been handed over in $US dollars. Gonna see if we can change that up a bit. We located a banking machine just across the street from Cancun Billy’s on a downloaded map, so Janie was going to check that out and grab the equivalent of $200 CAD (3,000 Mex Pesos) while out on a shopping excursion. Further, as a confession, I was also secretly watching the weather at home, hoping that a Tuesday nor’easter wasn’t going to cause too much havoc in NS!
Speaking of weather, I thought it might be prudent to describe what I’m seeing in regards to temperature and wind patterns. To date the weather has been clear, with limited cloud cover and no precipitation. Until this morning there has been a steady easterly breeze that lasts throughout the day, diminishing only slightly over night. Tuesday’s forecast, however, has predicted isolated thunder showers. The collapse of the breeze almost feels as though a precursor to the rain. Indeed it has been our warmest morning to date. Further, we had not really seen a mosquito prior to the drop in wind… But did experience several flying creatures this morning. Perhaps after a good thundershower that refreshing breeze will reappear.
Not to be outdone when it comes to nonsense, we exercised several brilliant moments of profundity during our conversations this morning. One such topic included perhaps the funniest movie I’ve ever seen, and is linked to Mexico and its passion in regards to the world of wrestling. Fans of Jack Black will know immediately the cult following of Nacho Libre… Mexican Brother turned pro wrestler. Simply hysterical. Here’s a link for you to try. Mexican Wrestler Name Generator provides visitors their very own Mexican Luchador name! If you could now refer to me as “El Tigre Flaco” (The Skinny Tiger) it would be most appreciated. Fun after a drink or two in the spirit of our own Grand Prix Wrestling.
From my perch near the beach there were lots of things going on. A steady troll of the smaller boats with outboards were treking would be divers & snorkelers to the reef. We hope to get our chance on Wednesday! Further out both cruise ships and tankers frequent this area well beyond the reef. Interesting to watch at night. Also fun to view were the pelicans that fish the shoreline east of the wharf. Although not incredibly graceful, they did seem efficient in scooping fish in their large bills. I hope this link (Pelican Diving) will start a video Monica filmed of his performance. Further… Everyone in our area was clothed! That makes a good Nova Scotia wave a little less awkward now doesn’t it!
So… While I hunkered down with Coronas and lime the girls were busy shopping in town. After an initial look about they had lunch and then returned and purchased a few items, including some jewelry, a blanket and a special treat for me (can’t tell you til the end of the trip)! Although they returned with only a few items, it seems that the hunt was the real goal of the walk. Further… The beer and Baileys stash was, thankfully, revitalized.
In the end, there really was no rain Tuesday… No more than a sprinkle. The wind picked up, with a slight change in direction, and once again the area out front of our accommodation cooled. Supper saw us, in the shade and relaxation of the terrace, combining some Chorizo with fresh veggies, tortilla chips and a sampling of Chilean red. Later, our adapted margaritas (sans sel) and swimming rounded out the evening. Each night we congregate out near the pool, as if saying grace, for an evening conversation with nose to the wind and eyes on the water. As we meet the halfway mark of our March Break I’m confident in the statement that things couldn’t have gone much better.

Hi Chris
I am enjoying your posts immensely! I can almost feel the warm breeze and hear the beautiful quietness of the mornings ( not to mention the coffee & baileys).
Can’t wait to read of the under water excursion today. I hope you have underwater camera abilities 😁
Thanks for sharing this is awesome!!!
Funny, before I saw the picture I wondered how Rachel had made her way to Mexico when I you referred to a squawky, beady eyed ball of sass!
😀
You’re going to be in big trouble Glenn…
Hope that you managed some rest and relaxation over the break (and a bonus Monday / Tuesday). We had a great run in Mexico and feel very fortunate to have had the opportunity! We’ve noticed more than a slight change in weather since our return… Chat soon!
Headed out shortly… Looks like a 9:00 AM departure. Monica and Janie are ready for it! Unfortunately no underwater camera (and Eric has one too) so we’ll have to make do with memories! The reef along this part of the gulf is actually the largest in North America… I followed a feed which talks about a species (Red Lionfish I think) that is wreaking havoc on species and coral beds. Hope whatever I see is at least smaller than I am! Hope things are good at home. Take care and thanks for chiming in Rachel… Cheers
