One thing about doing a web space of my own is I get the chance to “pontificate” and “wax poetic” after trips… celebrate the victories and brood over the slips and falls! It helps when I “write through it”, let’s me step back and consider the bigger picture. Below are a couple of notes/thoughts we had in regards to the places we visited.
Bangor – Why am I always lost when I drive in Bangor? Janie has it down to a science but, inevitably, if I’m in the driver seat we are officially lost! Bangor is for us, like many Eastern Canadians, a favorite shopping spot. Not sure, with the dollar having taken a nose dive this year, if Bangor is the “SALE” hotspot it was a couple of years, but we have some regular haunts (especially the LL Bean Outlet) where we leave behind our hard earned Canadian dollars. We usually stop into Dysart’s on the way through as well… classic truck stop style diner!
Boston – Boston really has something for everyone, whether it’s an Art Gallery, pro sports, science museum, lively pub or shopping that you seek! Folks are generally friendly and helpful should you look lost or confused… great to explain the shortest subway route from “A” to “B” or where to get the best Fish ‘n Chips! Still haven’t got the off freeway driving in Boston under control though, gotta be careful in there as there is little in terms of grid. I’m guessing Boston was first cart paths around the harbour… not designed for today’s driver. However, we had great success with public transit and stayed close enough to city centre that driving was absolutely unnecessary.
Providence – Got our first little peek at Rhode Island this time around. Our route so often skirts that part of New England taking a more direct line towards Hartford. As Steve and Jen have moved quite close to Providence, I can see a longer stop there in the future. Will have to snoop the local attractions and events for next trip!
