Day 3 was a lazy start… as troops straggled into that awesome kitchen to the smells of coffee, pancakes, and bacon. I loved helping out at the big kitchen stove… an awesome piece of kitchen appliance! All hands settled and ate breakfast after Amelia arrived from her sleepover. Hearty start to the day!
Can’t say where the time went from there… mostly frittered away in relaxation! Perfect as far as I was concerned. Some kept an eye on the incoming forecast with predictions ranging from cms to Armageddon, others invested time in a mammoth game of Lord of the Rings Monopoly, while the fire in the living room was constantly tended and Than’s coffee supply was decimated.
One big job accomplished for the day though! Mid-afternoon we tackled removing the screens from the outside porch to store for the remainder of the winter. Teams carefully dismantled, moved and stored the special screens in the basement for the snowy season. Totally spent… we went back to the fire (this time with drink in hand) for the remainder of the daylight hours. We arrived with a funky bottle of Steinhart’s Blueberry Gin (distilled twenty minutes from our home in Antigonish) which Stephenie managed to concoct a couple of tasty drinks. Loved the mojito suggestion! Nicely done!
Supper was a big event… East Indian food prepared by the Porter team decked out with a fancy chicken & rice dish supported by our new favourite, pappadums! We’ve tackled similar meals at home upon our return and are experimenting with curry, pastes and sauces. Great take away… we love how the Porter’s always share a fun meal / drink or website that we try at home! As night fell the weather began to track in and as the evening progressed we saw big, fluffy snowflakes that felt ominously close to rain. We hoped, as return was in the morning, that the snow would subside, roads would be clear and driving conditions tolerable. A fine time with family and friends!
