An early text from Andrew noted he and Lori had made check out on time and were on their way to YUL for a flight home to make commitments at the Moncton CFL Game. Thus, Janie and I were on our own to explore a beautiful Sunday from our downtown location. Firstly, a quiet breakfast at Reuben’s Deli & Steakhouse on St Catherine’s. Love those glass coolers filled with product. When in Montreal, we take advantage of the casual atmosphere of this space and the “smoked meat” addition to breakfast. Agreeable indeed!
Much to my dismay, Janie was absolutely right this morning in stating “We really need a walk”! It was time to get moving after a lot of fun and games. To add insult, she pointed northward toward Mount Royal Park. With heads down, off we went, managing an extensive hike to the top of the park. Great views of the city and super people watching, with all shapes and sizes on foot and bike. City planners “done good” setting aside this piece of real estate for recreation and relaxation. Could feel the leg muscles on a couple of those larger staircases for sure!
Instead of heading back, we kept right on walking, making our way down the bulk of St Catherine’s Street. Store upon store, business after business, we strolled taking in the multitude of Sunday revelers in the parks and sidewalks. Eventually, we saddled up inside the Montreal Public Library for a bathroom break and cool sit down. Then back to the Delta via Subway. While I chilled, Janie used the bus to check out a few “thrift” shops. A rest turned to a sleep and when we hit the streets in search of food it was dusk!
For supper we wanted to try something Lebanese and decided on Shawarmaz. Great little old school diner with a steady flow of patrons (always a good sign). We enjoyed Shawarma plates (loads of chicken / beef) and sampling from each other’s meals. I would love to be more confident in what I’m seeing on the menu… and of course ordering in French! I think I’m going to keep searching out these spaces when opportunity presents… yummy! Then home to the Delta for a quiet night and to catch up on sleep!
