Rounding out our summer travel in Canada, Janie and I, once again, were lucky enough to return to Newfoundland this August. We toured NFLD in ’13 & 18′, and have always felt at home in this surprisingly vast province. With kids or as a couple, we love the combination of landscape, culture and attraction that set the “pace” for this setting. Our visit affords the privilege (in three different trips) to physically set foot in each province this year (maybe the territories next 😁)!
Not being entirely vacation, in late August Janie’s NSTU Group hosted a conference being held on “The Rock” in the wonderful city of St. John’s. Although a business trip for her, we intended to grab pockets of time before, during, and after scheduled meetings to use to our advantage and explore. Janie continues to work hard on her trustee role to learn more, and find ways to help better support her membership, so it’s important work. Also great, however, to have portions of travel cost covered through the conference, and we’ve set aside a few more days to create a “week” of road time before returning! Having the days to be on the move, I have worked up a focused itinerary that includes daily outdoor activities (loving my hikes), but also considered “Option B” indoor / cultural opportunities as the very wet and inclement weather continues in the Atlantic provinces. Not scared of rain, so we packed appropriately for both instances.
If you’re interested, I’ll be crafting daily journals that reflect some of the “Things to do” in the St. John’s area as well as “less visited” sites across the island that we hope to experience along the route home! As always… we’re glad to bring you along as best we can to share in the visit!

Waited until after 6 to make our way down to Columbus field. In fact your message came in as I headed downstairs. Matt Anderson didn’t disappoint ,it was an amazing performance. Poncho’s were in demand!!
Hope the Ferry trip was pleasant !
Always a good concert 🎶 when brother Matt is on the bill! Glad it worked out and trust that you kept reasonably dry. Great crossing… we had similar weather but warm and cozy in the bunk and the NFLD’ers working on these boats never fail to make you feel at home 👍. Cheers, and thanks for chiming in!
Beautiful day…and evening…just waiting for Jimmy Rankiin and Natalie.
Glad the weather came around… looks like a good day today! We are going walking in the fog this morning… exploring the rugged headland that surrounds the National Historic Site at Signal Hill. Already Day 3 of this trip!Chat soon… Chris
