Mexico Day 8

Sunrise – Day 8

Good morning! Time to pull things up by the boot straps and make for home today. Early start on the pool deck watching the sun make its way past the ridge of clouds that have been ever present on the horizon. The light kicks in all directions as it breaks through the cloud cover… We call it the “Jesus Moment”. The first couple of hours were taken up with breakfast and getting items gathered and packed up. When we asked about the 11:00 AM checkout on Day 1 Vero said unless there was another rental (and she would notify if there was) we could stay until transfer pick up at 3:30 ish. Perfect… Giving us almost another full day and last gasps on the ground in Puerto Morelos.

Casa Tykel

The ladies had ideas in regards to some last minute purchasing on their minds. It was off to town with the last drabs of peso and sawbuck they could muster to wrestle away an item or two from the street vendors. I had put in a little order for a couple of the lovely blankets that we used outside in the breeze. Meanwhile, I puttered about the condo sorting things out inside, signing off with Vero, and prepping a light lunch before our departure. Vero was great to work with, and each of the contacts she had shared with us worked out very well. Not sure if we could have found a space that would have suited our needs any better!

Treasures for home!

My shoppers were in the doorway by 12:30… In the pool by 12:32! We were all wringing out the last drips of vacation time. Janie bought herself a “chonchon” (Mexican style piggy mortar and pestal) and found a couple of blankets for the old fella. I think everyone had a little something to take home to help remember passing this way. We had our final lunch from Chris’ Diner and did a big clean up and sorting for the last part of the journey.

We all knew, somehow, that getting back to the airport was going to be a challenge. We had scheduled a transfer 3 1/2 hrs prior to departure feeling it. After no one arrived at the arranged time Janie got on the phone immediately and after a couple of texts to Vero, Juan came to the rescue. He had us entering Cancun departures at about 2 hrs prior to flight time. Everything good after that (if we don’t count the issue of trying to get a 15lb stone pig / pair of scissors through carry-on).

Flight WJA 2913

Our WestJet 737 departed exactly on time at 6:50 PM. Great run as the girls watched movies and I kept an eye to the flight map (1 hr quicker in flight time back to Moncton… I’m guessing jet stream). However, we did face a 2 hr time change so we were pretty soggy at our arrival in Moncton at 1:20 AM. After customs and checked bag stops, we got our warm clothes on, paid for parking, and made for home. Arrived at 4:20 AM… Bit ragged but safe and sound!
