Ireland ’22

Hiatus complete! Family & friends travelling, summer travel bug, “shack whacky”… not sure why but we spontaneously combusted online with our VISA and decided to get on the move. Decision to travel on Thursday, flight abroad on Sunday. It’s been a while, as our last major trek dated back to New Years ’20 just prior to Covid19 shut downs and feeling like an eternity ago. Indeed, we did not even come close to following our usual planning regime. In total, it was a short look for seasonal direct flights from YHZ to Europe. Ready, set, GO!!!

Series of firsts involved this time… including our inaugural visit to Ireland and being newbies to summer in Europe. However, I had (in my GDrive) a potential Ireland Itinerary created in 2018 and a Frommer’s Ireland Guide that was even older. Just needed to be dusted off (especially pricing) and in short order the spreadsheet was adjusted to one including Dublin, Belfast & Galway. The euro was reasonable (1€ costing $1.30 Can), but last minute bookings / high season fees eliminated many of the normal cost considerations and we were “on the hook” for some coin. Monica’s recent trip proved helpful / inspirational as well… and I’m never above begging, borrowing, pilfering from others in the realm of travel. Even popped a couple of Rick Steves videos on the TV for last minute ideas! By showtime Sunday all the transportation & accommodation details were complete and on the ground bookings limited to attractions.

As in the past, please feel free to follow along as we blog daily about things that poke at our sensibilites while on the move. We can’t wait to get going. Of course, drop us a note in the comment section (bottom of each page) if you have questions, suggestions or tips (or just want to chirp 🤓) and I’ll be sure to get back to you.
