Janie and I had the good fortune to return to Newfoundland this summer. The impetus for the travel was a conference for teachers that Janie was attending being held in the City of Corner Brook. Although a work trip for her, we grabbed pockets of time before, during, and after the conference to use to our advantage and explore. We had planned for this and thought that daily outdoor activities and cultural opportunities would be the focus. Thus, we packed accordingly.
NFLD feels a lot like a staycation for us. Minimal highway time and similar climate create a comfortable switch to travel on the island. Yet, we love the mountainous western range and coastal fjords that are unique landscapes in Eastern Canada. My first experience in NFLD, with our entire family, was during the summer of 2013. We crossed the expanse of the island, north to south and east to west, and have since valued the connection we made to our exposure to the NFLD landscape and culture.
So, we set out to both break new ground while recapturing highlights from our 2013 trip. Please feel free to follow along as we chronicle the “play” portion of this trip and catch some of the images we collected during our Summer 2018 west coast visit.
