Day 1 – US Appalachia ’24

Early 5:15 AM Departure

It was an early rise and departure from Antigonish, with best intentions to arrive early evening in Marlborough, Massachusetts. As a travel day, there weren’t a ton of things to report. Good roads, decent weather, frequent lane closures for construction, and a couple of fuel / bio-break stops. We basically poured it on, divvying the driving time equally, grazing on prepped snacks and eating up kms (then miles).

Just a couple of items of note. Firstly, we stopped at L.L. Bean in Bangor around noon to pick up a tent. I’d been looking for something durable / small / lightweight and we landed that! Hoping to give it a go at Great Smoky Mountains NP later in the trip 👍. Secondly, we took a few minutes to sort out connectivity while on Bean wireless. Janie’s patience won the day and we left with both machines harvesting 5G data and lots of access! 🛜

Pruller Restaurant – Brazilian BBQ

Our evening accommodation was the Courtyard Boston Marlborough. We checked in around suppertime, after navigating some stop and go traffic on the I-495, and found all in order. Having not really taken time for sustenance, we did the quick Google search of the neighborhood and settled on a Brazilian BBQ joint, Pruller Restaurant. Yummy!!! We ate well having salads, meats, beans and yuca! Thus, we stuffed Day 1 in the bag… with nearly 11 hrs driving and 1110 kms in the books. We shared a Guinness 0.0 and a White Claw to end the evening, with another big road day scheduled for Thursday! 👍

    1. 😂… no piece of nylon is safe around that girl! I would’ve gone even smaller… but compromise is still a thing. We are in Greensboro this morning… Liverpool game tonight 🤞

    1. It was all very interesting… 77,000 turned up, on an evening that had both rain and threatened thunderstorms the entire night, to take in a Premier League friendly. We had an excellent time, and it was fun to participate. Our team won… but perhaps the biggest winner may be the League itself. Sure looked profitable to me 😜!
