Sleep often escapes during travel, and such was the case this morning. On the move quite early exploring a very quiet city. Fun to watch things awake… the sporty type running / cycling, dog walkers getting their best friends out, the early employees packing in supplies for their shops and doing the morning sweep. The darker side is with those who have slept in the street overnight, nestled amid a smattering of belongings and recyclables. I can only imagine the matter of being for those is complicated.
After my walkabout I settled in for a coffee at deTerroir café and caught up with some writing. Very Bohemian thing to do… enjoy a coffee and expend notes to page contemplating the rights and wrongs, consider values and judgements. Perhaps it’s natural to get reflective at the end of a good trip? One thing for certain… we are very fortunate to have been afforded the health and well-being to pick up and supplant ourselves in the experiences of others.
The business at hand, on this fresh Friday morning in August, was safely getting our group back to PEI, Halifax and Antigonish. It would be another day of substantial road time, with an estimated 9 hrs of driving to where our group divides and goes their separate way. Thus, we planned to be packed up before 8:00 AM to get pointed east and ahead of the day 👍. It was a quick grab of the car from parking, a smooth check-out, and then navigation with Ms L at the helm out of city/across the Pierre LaPorte to A20!
Ready, set, GO! We poured it on today, with Janie and John Peter handling the bulk of driving duties. With minimal stop beyond the essentials (fuel / washroom / snacks) we met excellent driving conditions and normal traffic. By 3:00 PM AST we were past the Houlton Me. exit and bearing down on the NB/NS border. That pace continued and as the front of the vehicle trivia questions went on the kms rolled by. All hands said goodbye shortly after 5:00 PM in Sackville, NB, heading in their respective direction. Brad’s odometer counted 3,377 kms for a trip total… our wonderful drivers did a great job delivering everyone home safely!
