As the kids have gotten older, I’ve seen a real shift in the way Christmas rolls out at chez Lumsden. We’ve moved away from a holiday that once focused on gifts, sermons, and turkey. Instead, we go exploring! Since we regularly have upwards of two full weeks away from school, we now use this hunk of days for a road trip or getaway to somewhere warm. It all adds up to family travel, such as our flight to Orlando for Disney and Universal in 2011 or the road trip to Atlanta and Savannah over the holidays in 2013.
This Christmas we zeroed in on a New England Holiday trip. Somewhat deceivingly, one forgets that Boston really is our closest major metropolitan location. Thus, it’s a natural destination that can be easily reached in a day. So… off we go! I’m always keen to move and Monica had several attractions (and probably some new clothes) in mind. The “mix” saw a couple of museum visits, several stops for some shopping, a family visit in Connecticut and even an NHL game at the Gardens.
The pace, in comparison to many of our road trips, was leisurely. Mornings were a bit lazy, meals were garnished with long conversation, short blasts in the confines of the car, and only a visit or two each day in regards to attractions. Everything in moderation, and a pretty loose and care free itinerary!
