Paris ’16

Can’t say for sure where this idea started! Perhaps it was the good looking deal we found on flights… Maybe unfinished business from the visit Janie and I took in 2008… Or even just a really awesome chance for our two French Immersion kids (their first trip across the Atlantic) to get a crack at using the language. Whatever it was that initiated it, January saw us in full planning mode for a March Break run to Paris. And why not eh? Phenomenal opportunity for us and the kids to see gay Paris!

The planning piece was a pure delight and welcome distraction. Paris has such an abundance of tourism infrastructure, whether it be attraction, food, transportation links or accommodation that you’re seeking. Everyone got a bit of a task as well… With Janie working hard on where to stay, Monica and Peter sniffing out things to do, and I guess Dad (me) handling the commuting details and assembling an itinerary. I’ve worked hard on detailing cost this time around. I want to really compare the dollars and cents of this European Experience to my last All-Inclusive Southern destination. We also have a couple of twists while in Paris as well, which I think will be worth the effort!

Unlike most of our family excursions, we’re obviously taking to the air this time. I’ve got some real objectives, especially when it comes to airports and flights, which I’m going to sample with our group of four. For example, only one bag each that is small enough for carry on! Working so hard to prove less is more! Further, I’m blogging on the fly this trip, which I’m personally looking forward to trying. I really enjoy writing about our travel… Almost therapeutic for me. Even neater, I have a growing circle of travel friends that have begun to share their trips with us. It’s become a first hand way to learn about the travel process and some of the inspiring destinations that we and others have been blessed to have experienced.

So, you’ve got the intro for what we hope will be a worry free, culturally enriched, March Break in Europe. The days will most likely get posted (follow the link in the lower right corner of the pages) while everyone in North America is sound asleep. I love to write in the mornings as sunlight breaks with coffee in hand… That’ll be 5 hours ahead of Atlantic Standard time!

  1. You guys sure know how to pack a lot into a week. It looks amazing, what wonderful family memories you are creating.

    1. Hey Mark… Hope all is good at home! Just left the Vimy Memorial and we had a great visit. Powerful piece of stone! Loved it there… Paris is amazing but nice to get a day trip in to slow down the pace. Having coffee in a noisy eatery just outside the Arras train station. Take care… Fingers crossed that X-represents well at CIS Hockey!

  2. Hello Lumsdens
Derek Druhan and I got back from our trip in the Baltic region mid-July and we finally have our pictures organized. We also travelled to Scotland for the week and had a wonderful Time but I felt like we needed to share a little bit about our time in the Baltics. This region was beautiful, easy to travel and the best part was that our dollar was pretty good considering being in Europe. If you would like us to share more then feel free to contact either of us.
Thanks for sharing your tips about traveling in Paris. We had a wonderful 30 hours there:)

    1. Great to hear that all went well. I thought about you folks at the end of the school year. The lead in to Paris during your travel dates felt “wobbly”… Between spring flooding, ongoing security issues and Brexit items they were definitely in the news! I’ve heard nothing but great comments in regards to the Baltic region… My aunt & uncle did that region via “Cruise” and even got into St Petersburg and they loved that piece of their excursion. If you did some blogging / posted pics online we’d love to see them (if your comfortable with sharing). Always on the hunt for new destinations so hope we can drop a note to you folks if we happen to be so lucky as to find ourselves headed to Eastern Europe! Take care and safe travels!
