I woke up Sunday morning to the steady splattering of rain on the tent. It was dampish (probably an understatement). Water was pooling in the tent corner with drips making their way to the kids sleeping bags. We guessed others might be facing the same!
Undaunted, we attacked breakfast with the thought that all food should go! I’m supposing we cooked for several hours, as shifts of eaters awoke to find comfort in at least a warm plate of food under the kitchen tent! Thus, mounds of cheese, sausage, egg, ribs, and toast (even Pop Tarts) were tabled as we contemplated next steps. A Porter description of Amelia’s drenched sleeping bag sealed the deal for us! The kids were wet and we’d need to find dryer conditions.
Anticipating the call, Janie had reached out to her sister in Summerside to see if they might have room for a visitor or two! With reservation confirmed, we reported back to the group of the option. It was decided we’d pack up early to reconvene under roof and in beds. By 11:00 AM both wet and dry had been pushed into cars and we set up for a Tantramar Interactive sponsored group portrait… Awesome shots Mackay! It was at this point we said our goodbyes to the Taylor’s (they seemed dry) who were headed back to St Andrews. So great to meet Tommy’s family again.
However, one stop before leaving Cavendish. A special request was made to stop at Green Gables Heritage Place by one young Miss Porter. Who could refuse that! While a portion of the group strolled the grounds and enjoyed the exhibits, others headed to Tim’s for a sit down and warm coffee/hot chocolate. At both spaces a steady turnout revealed that tourist spirits hadn’t been dampened by the inclement weather. Cavendish, at least, was bustling.
With visits complete, our tiny caravan headed down Rts 6 and 2 through Kensington to destination Summerside. Upon arrival and introductions, we invaded the MacKinnon kitchen to unfold a counter full of sandwich fixings and drinks. All hands found sustenance and made peace with the surroundings.
Curiously, bowling was on the agenda for the afternoon… Still not sure where that suggestion came from? Regardless, the bulk of the reunion cast headed for Credit Union Place while the Mackay / Lumsden duo visited the PEI-LC prior to closing. Shortly after, all hands were bowling under blue light in some very high tech alleys. The lanes keep score themselves… Didn’t even have to add. Couple of strings in which we saw every portion of the lanes well used! Mackay’s combined composite scores were awesome.
Then off to grab grub for supper / breakfast. By BBQ time the wine was being served and a steady downpour had validated the decision to find fixed shelter for Sunday night. With the youngsters fed and taking part in full fledged, black ops “nerf gun” battles, the grown ups transitioned to evening and settled for song in the living room. A great evening as guitars were passed around (Brad seemed to have 10 of them) and we shared versions from the several song books around the table. Perfect evening!
Monday morning was one of breakfast, trip planning and goodbyes as folks exchanged contact info and discussed future visit opportunities. Consensus was job well done by Clan Ramsey… Who was also voted most likely to plan our next round of “get together”!
