Well… Here are a couple of useless factoids that caught my attention this week. Google maps is vacuous, but pretty fun. You can go forever gleaning inconsequential tidbits that cause one to pause. Example in point… The software estimates that to walk from Antigonish, NS to Jaco, Costa Rica would take an estimated 62 days of continuous walking. Even better, car travel constitutes a mere 91 hours of non-stop driving. This week saw me considering both! On Wednesday I scrambled for information as a result of the grounding, for all Canadian carriers, of the Boeing 737 Max 8 & 9 series planes. Thankfully, we weren’t among the unlucky on those jets that had flights cancelled. We anticipated that it may impact through delays, but initial concerns were averted.
Friday afternoon saw us scurry out of Antigonish with car packed, plane tickets and accommodations purchased, all passengers accounted for and a full tank of gas. In essence, we’ve learned that, with pre-planning done you will always be able to travel if you can hang on to just two things… Passport and Credit Card. Lose those and all comes to a screaming halt! Our evening destination, being the Hampton Inn in Moncton, would be a short stop of 8-10 hrs to grab a quick snack, nap and put us 10 minutes from the airport. Basically, a way to divide up and manage the travel piece in what would be an already long Saturday of travel.
So… I’m gonna send out links to family and friends that like to follow along on these excursions. I’m keen on this one… As Costa Rica isn’t the run of the mill sun destination for folks out east. No direct flights there from YHZ or YQM so the normal connections via Sunwing, Air Transat, WestJet, or Air Canada aren’t in place. Maybe I can share via the blog a sense of what the tiny Central American country looks, sounds, smells, tastes and feels like!
