“Delightful menace in the air” – Anne Bosworth Greene

How apt is Bosworth Greene’s description of November! Change of season was underway early, with rain, wind, and sub-zero nights foreshadowing the coming of winter. Leveraged by time change and shorter daylight hours, it’s when we scramble for that next layer of clothes, wrestle the shovels/salt/snowblower to the porch, dawn the winter tires from back of shed and coil the water hoses. Preparatory for so much of the next few months.

As with most school years, reporting periods tend to be the most challenging and labour intensive times. Assessment, report cards, parent teacher all bring along their own layers of work and worry. Hazard of the profession I guess! It was nice to see these work related stresses in the rear view mirror in late November… as thoughts roll to the crescendo that is Xmas in school settings.

Beyond responsibilities, we did manage lots of fun! Late season X-Football 🏈 and start-up of X-Men/Women Hockey 🏒 were a highlight… gotta love the tix for these events. Also, had great visits with the chilluns and their partners as they both coordinated treks home to see the folks. Great to hang with them all… keeps us young!

Of course, along the way, camp trips filled most “blank” spots on the weekends. A not so polite run in with resident squirrels, full-on winterizing, processing firewood and crunchy fall hikes were high priority. Won most of the battles 😉! Last minute jobs are all that remain… mostly pending the arrival of winter ice. Looking like a solid year of visits… with perhaps more exploring, via hike, canoe and drone, than ever before.
